In this video we will demonstrate how to replace the M.2 2280 Solid-State Drive or SSD on a Vostro or Inspiron 14 5415.
Before removing the SSD, read through the safety guidelines to protect your computer from potential damage and ensure your personal safety.

Then, turn off your computer and disconnect all attached peripherals. To begin, turn the computer over and loosen the two captive screws that secure the base cover to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
Now remove the five screws that also secure the base cover to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. Using the flat end of a plastic scribe, pry open the base cover, starting from the U-shaped recesses near the hinges at the top edge of the base cover and work your way around.
Lift and remove the base cover off the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. Peel the tape that secures the battery cable to the battery. Carefully disconnect the battery cable from the system board. Turn the computer over.
Then, press and hold the power button for 20 seconds to ground the computer and drain the flea power. Now let’s remove the M.2 2280 SSD.
First, remove the screw that secures the SSD to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. Now, slide and remove the SSD from the SSD slot on the system board.
You have now successfully removed the SSD. Now, let’s see how to install the M.2 2280 SSD. To begin, align the notch and gently slide the SSD into the SSD slot on the system board.
Replace the single screw to secure the SSD to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. Next, connect the battery cable to the system board.
Then, adhere the tape that secures the battery cable to the battery. Align and place the base cover on the palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
Gently press the edges and sides of the base cover until it clicks into place. Now, tighten the two captive screws to secure the base cover.
Then, replace the five screws that also secure the base cover to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. You have successfully replaced the M.2 2280 SSD.
