In this video, we will demonstrate how to launch SupportAssist OS Recovery using Dell BIOSConnect to recover your operating system. BIOSConnect is a pre-boot connectivity framework provisioned in Dell computers for system recovery process.
If a computer fails to boot to the main operating system or the local recovery from the Service Operating System, also known as SOS, BIOSConnect provides a support network by connecting to the Dell server over the internet and downloading the SupportAssist OS Recovery image.
SupportAssist OS Recovery is automatically initiated in BIOSConnect-enabled computers upon confirmation. You can also recover the operating system by pressing F12 and selecting the SupportAssist OS Recovery option in the BIOS launchpad.
Before you begin, ensure that your computer has an active internet connection and plugged into a reliable power source. To begin with, When your computer is unable to boot to the operating system even after the pre-configured attempts, the pre-boot system performance check is initiated. The system scans for hardware issues.
If the performance check detects no hardware issues and your computer is still unable to start local SupportAssist OS Recovery from the hard drive, you are prompted to restart your system and download the SupportAssist OS Recovery image from the Dell server using BIOSConnect. Now, click Continue.
The system restarts and BIOSConnect determines how the computer is connected to the internet. If a wired connection is detected, BIOSConnect continues to download the SupportAssist OS Recovery image from Dell.
Otherwise, a list of available wireless networks is displayed. This video will show you how to use a wireless network connection to launch SupportAssist OS Recovery.
On the Download SupportAssist OS Recovery Image screen, click Refresh to detect any new wireless networks. Connect your computer to a wireless network.
Once the network connection is established, click Start Recovery. The SOS image starts downloading from the Dell server to your system and may take several minutes to complete, depending on your network speed.
Once the image download is complete, the SupportAssist OS Recovery home page is displayed. You can now follow the on-screen instructions to reset your computer and complete the process. When completed, the system will perform a first-time boot of the operating system installed and your computer will be restored.
