DELL XPS 13 9300 4k screen red/yellow tint

Hello all,

Just wanted to know if some of you experience also a colour shift with a the 4k screen of the new DELL XPS 13 9300.
It's something that I did notice as soon as I switched it on.
You can check a picture of it, next to another DELL laptop.
Brightness is at is maximum on both laptops.

I can assure you that night shift is not enabled on the right one.
I found similar people on reddit with this issue, but just wanted to know if you guys had the same colour tone on the 4k screen.

Thank you for your help.

I received my xps 13 with the UHD 4k touchscreen panel this week too and experienced the exact same yellow tint. I hope this isn't an issue with all their units.

Received mine a week ago and I have also the exact same issue especially bottom of the screen is even more reddish. My screen is 13.4" FHD+ (1920 x 1200) InfinityEdge Non-Touch Anti-Glare 500-Nit Display.

I have xps 15 7590 and the screen is perfect, bright and white in all corners. But my new xps 13 9300 is kind of red and as I said bottom of the screen is even more reddish. You can see on your photo as well. Is that normal or should I return it??? Kind of disappointing.

I thought it was only related to 4k display, but it seems that FHD have it too.

I opened a case with the dell support, but they told me that this is not enough to validate a replacement of the screen or the laptop and comparing it to another Dell laptop can't be an evidence of screen issues.
I know that screens have allays subtile tint differences, but for me on this one is clearly a colour shift:
The worst thing is I tried to do a calibration, but then other parts of the screen (like the bottom) have a green tint.

It's like I can't have an overall good calibration.

Please note that on a external screen the whites are good and there is no colour shift. So it's not an issue with internal graphics.

Thank you guys for your answers, it shows that is clearly something Dell have to fix.

I just received my Dell XPS 13 replacing unit and it comes with the same issue.

Its not a win10 problem, like night light, because if you compare both laptops on the bios menu the new one is also yellow tinted.

There is no fix for this. I had two different ones sent to me last fall and spent hours on the phone with them trying to recab it through different ways and different drivers. The even took over the computer remotely and tried to change it. None of it worked and I sent them back. I couldn't use it because I deal with photos and the colors on the Dell screen was way off. Like, the object is apple red in my hand, apple red on my old Dell, apple red on my iPad but this brown brick red on the newer Dells. My husband just got a Dell from work and I see it has the exact same issue. It actually hurt my eyes after a while of staring at it. While I have a long history with Dell, I'll be switching brands if they are all like this when I actually get the opportunity to go into a Brick & Mortar store to look at them.

Hey, I was having the exact same issue with the same display. I ended up getting a replacement, which also has the same issue. I think this is a genuine issue with almost all 9300 displays, so I just gave up and stuck with it. One thing that helped A LOT was to use the Dell Cinema Color app to remove the yellow tinge. It comes preinstalled on the machine. I used the sports setting, and adjusted the temperature setting to make the whites more blue-balanced instead of yellow-balanced, and it's not perfect but a lot better than it was before.

Hi, is there a solution for this issue? I am having the same problem and it looks like a design problem with this model based on what I heard from the dell support engineer. But this is a problem as it makes my photo editing hard as the colors are false because of this yellow tint. Please help.

I found this solution on reddit and it works for me:

"I used this Intel Graphics Command Centre instead. If you are interested, here are my settings:

Brightness Enhancement: R: -8, G: -6, B: 2

Contrast Enhancement: R: 47, G: 47, B: 50"

-Disable cinema color

-Go to Display settings -> HDR streaming

-Disable HDR video streaming and re-enable it then go back to Display settings

-Set brightness to full and then un-check 'Change brightness automatically'

-Disable night light

I was able to reduce the yellowish color of the screen by adjusting the RGB intensities in the "Intel Graphics Command Center" application. The screen becomes whiter, as a normal notebook screen would be, but the yellow spots persist on the display. Everything leads me to believe that DELL is intentionally shipping notebooks with RGB turned to yellow in order to cover up manufacturing or design defects in their displays. This is unfortunate, especially as it is one of the most expensive notebook models available on the market.

What @Andre360 said works. Make sure the brightness is not full to start with and make sure night light is switched ON before you start.

@terramex YOU ARE CORRECT

This is a BIG issue. Ive received several replacement panels. ALL too yellow and NOT 500nits as written in the specs. The max brightness is only 420nits for the FHD panels at native white point, verified using external colorimeter. I took 20 sample measurements using i1d3 plus of all the panels.

If you calibrate using windows RGB sliders to fix the white point, the max brightness will go down further to 380nits.

This leads me to believe that poor quality DIM panels at 380 nits are sold with the yellow white point as a trick to boost the brightness.
