XPS 8940, recommendation for 10Gbps network card upgrade?

Hello,

I own a Dell XPS 8940, which is currently equipped with a 1Gbps network card. I am planning to upgrade my network infrastructure, including switching to 10Gbps (SFP+) switches. I would appreciate your guidance in selecting a compatible 10Gbps network card for my desktop.

For reference, I am running Windows Server on this machine.

Thank you in advance for your assistance. I look forward to your recommendations.

@RJERJI

I am probably not the right person to answer this, but from what I see, no, it will not work?

Reason is the card itself is a Maximum Bus Speed a Slot margin: X8

The XPS8940 doesn't have an x8 lane.

The 16 one is the video card intended one. Might work in there if you have no discrete video card, but I'm not sure?

NewEgg appears to have some x4 slot ones, https://www.newegg.com/p/pl?d=10gb+network+card+pcie+x4 but where ever you get one, make sure returns are allowed and free in case it does not work? There could be MS OS changes needed, such as for WiFi 7 now.

The 8940 comes with the Killer E2600 Gigabit Ethernet Controller. This is on the motherboard and you connect via the backplane.

Assuming you have a FREE PCIe slot, you'll need to buy a PCIe 10Gbps card and install it. Then just go into Device Manager or Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Network Connections, and DISABLE the Killer Ethernet connection.

You can Google 10Gbps network card to locate a card you want. Don't have FREE PCIe slots, there are USB External devices for 10Gbps as well.

Dear Ispalten,

Good day,

Thank you for your response.

I would like to inquire if the "Intel X520-DA2 82599-2SFP+" is compatible with the 8940 model. Additionally, could you please provide any further tips or recommendations that may assist with the installation, beyond the points you previously mentioned?

Thank you for your assistance, and I hope you have a great day.
