XPS 8930, boot from USB?
I use Acronis True Image to create a rescue usb and recovery image. What is the process to enable booting from the rescue usb. What are the exact steps and in which order, to change the bios settings (F2 at bootup), and the boot option menu (F12 at bootup)? Also, I assume I have to reinstate the original BIOS settings after recovery, but is this simply a reversal of the changes, or is it more complicated?

Does the USB drive appear in the list when you press F12? If it does you should be able to boot from it.
I find with Win 10, most have "Fast Startup" enabled and you can't access the BIOS at startup. In these cases, doing a "Restart" from Windows 10 will allow accessing the BIOS or Boot Menu (F12) and you should be able to boot from the USB drive there. Personally, I disable the Fast Startup since I have an SSD which is fast anyway.

Just to add to what fireberd said...
Connect the bootable USB stick to a USB2 port before you power the PC on. Then power on and immediately press F12.
You shouldn't have to make any changes to BIOS to boot from that USB stick and use Acronis to recover your image.

Legacy Booting does not occur without F2 setup turn secure boot off to enable showing ANYTHING when pressing F12 to show boot menu.
Bootable MBR USB media MUST BE INSTALLED BEFORE turning power on.
The F12 is quick but if you hit too fast its ignored as keyboard error.
So you press F2 then F12 then F2 then F12 over and over until you get the menu.

@obiwan2u To turn off Fast Startup, go to All settings / Power & sleep / click on the 'Additional power settings' link / click on 'Choose what the power buttons do' / click on 'Change settings that are currently unavailable' (if necessary) / then uncheck 'Turn on fast startup' under 'Shutdown settings'.

@Stileguru
Make the Acronis True Image media USB from the program on the computer you want to use the USB. No need to turn off secure boot or enable legacy if it's done right. Tap F12 on Dell logo screen and select your USB device and it should boot.
I keep USB as first boot option on my XPS 8930 and it works fine no issues. I also use the PE version of the USB media it requires WAIK it will ask and you will have the option to download and install.
