XPS 8930, 5th hard disk possible?
Hi all. I have an XPS 8930 with a 256gb NVMe SSD and a 2TB HDD. I understand that it is possible to mount two further 3.5 inch HDDs in the case, so four hard disk drives in total.
My question is: would it be possible to run a fifth drive by upgrading the NVMe SSD, and then sticking the original 256gb drive in a PCIe port?
The larger, new NVMe SSD drive would be the boot drive.
Thanks in advance for your help.

nvme M2 is a socket not a drive specification comes in 2 kinds SATA and PCI-E
cannot use PCI-E in SATA and cannot use SATA in PCI-E
So the answer is not really.
Thats why dual mode cards for PCI-E bus also have sata connection for motherboard.
DUAL NVME card with SATA and PCI-E
SATA M2 NVME

Is that because the drive supplied with my PC is in SATA form? Just making sure I fully understand why it isn't possible.

@Travel089 I am not sure about your particular M.2 drive, but it has been reported in this forum that some XPS 8930 come with a Toshiba M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD or an SK Hynix M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD.

Thanks for your reply. Mine is a Toshiba KXG50ZNV256G. Where does this leave me?

There should be no problem for you to move the KXG50ZNV256G M.2 2280 NVMe ssd to a PCIex4 slot using an M.2 PCIex4 adapter. This leaves the motherboard M.2 slot open for a new nvme ssd.
note the motherboard PCIex16 slot is usually occupied by discrete video card but you can opt to use integrated gpu and open up that slot too for a 6th ssd.

So it is possible then, that the computer will support one NVMe SSD, three 3.5 hard disks, and another NVMe with the adaptor you mention?
