XPS 7390 2-1 "a synaptics driver is required for reflashing"

Hi everyone, I'm trying to install the Dell Touchpad driver version 19.6.6.0, A01 file EFU-TP-PR3112815_MUP_x64_ZPE.exe  so I can disable a function "Leave touchpad on when a mouse is connected" which is no longer displaying the touchpad settings. In fact, I don't have any options in the touchpad settings and no touchpad driver listed under Human Interface Devices or Mice and Other Pointing Devices.

So when I'm trying to install the Dell Touchpad driver, I get an error that pops up saying "a synaptics driver is required for reflashing" but there is no good info on the web about this, and I'm not able to install any of the synaptic drivers that are available.

Thank you

What version of Windows?

Where did you find Dell Touchpad driver version 19.6.6.0, A01 file EFU-TP-PR3112815_MUP_x64_ZPE.exe?

The file I see for Win 10 is EFU-TP-PR3114121_MUP_x64.zip and it clearly says: "The update contains changes that impact only certain configurations or provides new features that may or may not apply to your environment."

And Dell offers that touchpad firmware update for Win 10.  So if you're running Win 11, it probably doesn't apply...

Where are you looking for the "Leave touchpad on when a mouse is connected" option? In BIOS setup or in Windows?

What version of BIOS is currently installed? Latest is 1.32.0.

What's the current setting for this option in BIOS setup

Mouse/Touchpad Defines how the computer handles mouse and touchpad input.

Default: Touchpad and PS/2 Mouse. Leave the integrated touchpad enabled when an external PS/2 mouse is present.

And notice it says "PS/2" mouse with no mention of a USB mouse...

Well - you've managed to solve my root problem :)

Up until a month or so ago, the option to disable the touchpad when a ext. mouse was plugged in was located within the windows 11 touchpad settings. Now that seems to be located in the BIOS. I've updated the setting and it seems I'm good to go.

Thank you!
