XPS 8300, GTX 1080 Ti, upgrade 2019
Has anyone had any success in upgrading the XPS 8300 with the 1080TI or any modern high end GPU despite the 0Y2MRG Motherboard supporting only Legacy BIOS GPUs and not UEFI? And if so which make and model? I am in the market to buy the best available graphics card that this PC can handle to delay buying a newer system for as long as I can. Space is not a restriction as I transplanted this PC into a Corsair Obsidian 450d Case _ Thank you very much in advance

RTX 2060 and R Series Radeon cards are not likely working in the XPS 8300/VOSTRO 460 due to not having UEFI class 2.3.1 bios.
Legacy Bios does not support new R Series Radeon cards or RTX series Nvidia cards.
Class 1 Dell bios requires DOS VESA Video mode 103 in order to post and get into F2 cmos setup. Windows 8 and UEFI came out in 2012. Last bios for this system was done in 2011. That also means that mitigations for spectre and meltdown are not forthcoming ever.
This package provides the Dell System BIOS update and is supported on Dell XPS Desktop 8300 and Vostro Desktop 460 for Windows and DOS Operating Systems.More details

Pascal based Nvidia cards do not have an issue which is why the 1080TI works in a 2006 XPS 400 system in the youtube video.

Thank you so much for the quick reply - how would I be able to tell if the PCI E Slot on my MOBO is compatible? It is a Sandy Bridge motherboard model Dell 0Y2MRG with an i7-2600 processor. Really appreciate your time

There are no issues using XPS 8300 8500 8700 8900 etc.
The Slot is not an issue.

Physical space with the stock Case is.

Some get around this issue by using slot extender.
There are no software issues but there are power supply and Physical issues. Stock power supply and case is not working.

1080 TI works fine in almost ALL Dells EXCEPT those with PCI-E 1.1 and 2.0 bus like the Precision 490/690.
UEFI Bios is not required for operation but PCI-E Bus 2.1 or 3.0 is.
Here is a guy who put it in an XPS 400 and used external power supply because stock Dell unit does not have enough power.

The other issue you may have in an 8300 is the aux power connections being underneath the case in such a way that you require right angle connectors OR you have to hack the case with tin snips.
There is very little room in the 8300 which is why people opt for ZOTAC Mini versions of cards.
Look at the pics in the post below to see what I mean.

A google search would have quickly led you to this GTX 1080 upgrade.
Used the Nvidia GTX 1070 FE in the same machine as well. Okay at 1920 x 1080 with frame rates capped at 60 fps without the i7 2600 CPU getting bottlenecked. But without capping the frame rates CPU usage got to 100% where now you would have a heat issue which requires changing CPU cooler or CPU liquid cooling with the Corsair H60 (2018)
At 1440p or above CPU will get bottlenecked.
I see you transplanted into a new case which removes the 4.3" GPU height restriction.
Up to GTX 1060/RTX 2060 would be okay to use the 460W PSU. That PSU is marginal with the GTX 1070/RTX 2070, should get a new PSU.
Stay with a Nvidia FE reference type card if possible to avoid a video bios issue which caused problems with that XPS 8300/8500/8700 machines.
Read bottom of this post as well for GPU choice, RTX 2060 would be the best choice
Edit: changed post after reading you transplanted into new case and fixed typos

@speedstep I believe is correct that the RTX series cards may not work with the bios of the XPS 8300.
So stay with the GTX 1060 or GTX 1070. GTX 1070 should work with the 460W PSU, though an upgrade is a good idea.
