If you want 11th gen cpu support, better get the 8940 motherboard version of the later release and not the first release (kv3rp).
users reported kv3rp board does not post smoothly w 11th gen cpu.
Motherboards = KV3RP Foxconn 02012PQ00-600-G, Released July 9, 2020 2W4W1 Foxconn 02012TA00-600-G, Released December 1, 2020, Brazil only F1H92 Foxconn 02012YJ00-600-G, Released March 15, 2021, Brazil only 427JK Foxconn 02012VY00-600-G, Released March 15, 2021 K3CM7 Foxconn ??, Released July 14, 2021
one user of kv3rp could not post w 11th gen, another kv3rp user said bios needs a reset before it can post.
” I was able to run the 11900k in my XPS-8940 (kv3rp) using bios 2.9.0. I hope this helps. I should note that on first boot, it didn't want to post. I waited about 3 minutes leaving it on, it rebooted on its own, then posted. It's posted every time since. I think the bios needed some kind of reset which it did on its own.”
user benchmark 1st 5 examples show 11900k for motherboard k3cm7 and 427jk.
Is there a more expansive list? I've got 1DGRR(shipped with a 10th gen) and a DW55K(shipped with a 11th gen).
On the DW55K, after a hw swap, ram, m.2 ssd and video card the i had a bunch of weird boot issues which after about 3-4 reboots went to a 3 amber 5 flash error which is " Power Rail Failure: EC ran into power sequencing failure"
Looks like I have a chance to get a 1DGRR board, seems to be newer than any listed here so I'm assuming I'll have no issue running an 11th gen in it.
what may be confusing is that 1DGRR is board manufacturer model number, which has nothing to do with Dell P/N.
in this case, the 1DGRR board can be flashed with either a 8940 bios or G5 5000 bios, afterwards get a different DP/N. The DP/N is on a white sticker at left lower corner of board, and has serial number after the DP/N, unique to each board. It is better to use DP/N to refer to a board specifically than the board maker model number.
example 1DGRR 8940 board with DP/N KV3RP. This board is incompatible with 11th gen cpu.
The G5 board may look similar to xps 8940 board but with a different DP/N and bios obviously, and would lack some xps bios features. It might physically fit 8940 case since Dell often use same mobo of different bios in different models of same era, for example xps 730x use same mobo as Area 51 R1 but different bios.

1DGRR is Dell oem board for XPS 8940 and G5 5000.

DW55K is user verified to be xps 8940 motherboard
DW55K is board maker model and not DP/N.
