WSM to vWorkspace warnings
Currently a WSM 6.0 21-seat license company. We keep our server maintenance active. Historically as we add seats, we purchase some from CDW. They are received and show they remain active through the year 2699 - effectively perpetual.
Recently we looked into taking advantage of the vWorkspace transition, as WSM seat licenses are discontinued and replaced by vWorkspace device licenses.
Problems we found:
1) vWorkspace seats cost appx $95 for 1 year and $125 for 3 year. Gone is the perpetual seat licensing
2) Without a WSM seat maintenance plan purchased, we aren't entitled to transitioning the current seats. We were offered the chance to rebuy them as vWorkspace 1year licenses at 40% off, but that means we will effectively need to renew them annually.
I posed my dissatisfaction of this situation, as we are forced to go to the vWorkspace route now that WSM licenses are discontinued. I received a reply from the product manager confirming that the seat maintenance was optional. Thanks.
Were we the only ones unaware that WSM was being discontinued? Had I known, I would have purchased several to accommodate the growth for the next few years. It's such a turn off being dealt with this way.

1) vWorkspace licenses are perpeutal, but you can only purchase it with 1, 2 or 3 years maintenance included. Compared to WSM Software and maintenance pricing, the new model is almoast half of the price!
2) As explained in here, maintenance is available for 1, 2 or 3 years. Software Maintenance is not a software use right, which is perpetual as it is for WSM. So even if you'd purchase vWorkspace license with only one year maintenance, you can use the Software forever.
In regards to the communication from Dell to the installed base: those customers who accepted to receive news from Wyse got a proactive email sent back in December 2014, explaining the WSM license swap program.

well, maybe it's not so bad. ;) I thought it was a software use right, hence need to renew.
Thanks for clearing that up.
