WSM Server Migration
WSM Server Migration
Good Afternoon,
I'm trying to find documentation for migrating our WSM server to a different server (physical). Anyone have a link to share. I'm hoping that it only entails installing WSM on the new server and copying over the license key and directories from the old server. Am I being silly?
Thanks,
B

One quesition; If I create a new HQ server with 100% identitcal settings as the old one, and then I change HQ server at all linked sites, how would it go? Should I avvoid same OS image names?

Then, the current WSM services needed to be stopped so that I could copy my images to the new server. On the new server, I kept the same OS file names and just needed to register the OS images and configure my device groups with the appropriate OS image.
Core Server = Windows 2008 R2
Streamed OS = Windows 7 Pro
WSM version 6.1
The Dell WYSE support was really helpful and made sure that I understood the process.

I'm also interested in such info. I've been experimenting with partial success.
I copied StreamingDir and the SQL database from 6.1.0 x86 till another server with 6.1.0 x64, then it worked 90% well, the only problem I found so far is that Service credentials wasnt working anymore, the services didnt update to the credentials I sat up in WSM Admin, and it was unable to upgrade to WSM version 6.2.0.

Dear eiris, I understand your desire to accomplish this task yourself, but it would lead to an unsupported setup which cannot be in the interest of both sides.
To get such reconfiguration blessed by our SQA you will have to work through your local Dell CCC team and provide the information neccessary to file a CIR so Engineering can allocate ressources to it.

WSM database and registry both have references to the server the product was installed on. Hency copying the DB and directories to another server cannot work.
What server do you want to migrate?
HQ Core, LS Core, Edge server, Standalone in a LAB?
What Server OS, source WSM version, target WSM version etc.?
The reason why such procedure is not included in the standard product documentation is because this is not a trivial task and requires careful planning and testing.
While there are ways to "move" a WSM installation, you want to work with your local Dell CCC team to develop a procedure officially blessed by SQA team.
