WMS 3.2 VNC Settings

The VNC settings in both the Thin OS and Thin OS 9.x policies permit the use of VNC characters up to 16 characters. However using a third party VNC client I can connect to devices by only supplying the first 8 characters of the password.

Noted.  I believe it will be corrected in a future release for 9.1 device policies to reflect 8 characters.

In the 9.1 MR1 release notes, https://dl.dell.com/topicspdf/thinos_9_1_rn_en-us.pdf

Page 19

"The VNC password length is restricted to eight characters. When you enter more or less than eight characters, red tips are
displayed to notify you to follow the rule and enter the correct password."

As I understand it, if you are able to put in a password of more than 8 characters, it will only recognize or use the first 8.  I believe WMS 3.2 has been updated to reflect this.

Thank you for linking the documentation, I have looked it over and that certainly seems to apply on the ThinOS.

What I am seeing is from my locally installed WMS 3.2.780 instance. In the 8.x policy editor there is a description in the VNC Password setting that states "Up to 16 characters may be used", and in the 9.x policy editor there is a tooltip with the text "Specify the VNC password, up to 16 characters may be used."

I'm not certain if this is related, but I did note that there was a complexity requirement that was added to the VNC password in (9.0?)/9.1. VNC passwords must now include upper case letters, lower case letters, and a number.

Has this been fixed yet do we know?

I'd like to setup the new 9.x TCs so they have the same VNC password as the extant 8.6 ones but it's longer than 8 chars.
