Problem
=======
I recently bought aforementioned monitor and connected it to the laptop via HDMI cable (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001MZXUI6/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00). Everything seemed to work smoothly, I plugged in the monitor and it would instantly display in the max resolution of 1920 X 1200. Opening any apps, e.g. Apple iTunes worked fine as well, the picture being very clear and crisp.
However, as soon as I opened Mozilla Firefox, I saw odd artifacts appearing. Please refer to the following screenshot as an example:

This is the standard CNN.com page and as you can see, in addition to the green-ish dots at the top of the browser window, it also takes on this pink-ish gradient background color. Furthermore, certain items are not being rendered where they are supposed to be rendered or even duplicated (e.g. the heading "Latest News" and the headline "Brazil routes US in friendly". This behavior would continue, even if I would drag the browser window from the monitor to the built-in laptop display (when set up as "extended desktop"). I need to point out that other browsers, like Internet Explorer or Opera do not show these problems.
Another application that shows similar issues as described above is the Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel:

Certain labels and text are missing as well as the background is transparent apart from the rightmost part (about one fifth) of the window.
Fixing attempts
===============
Based on the Dell "Drivers and Downloads" site, I upgraded my BIOS, as well as my Intel Chipset and nVidia drivers. However that did not fix the problem.
I connected the same monitor, with the same HDMI cable, to an Acer Netbook, which did not show any of those problems. So I feel that this is related to the laptop, rather than the monitor.
Also tried connecting the monitor with the Dell XPS using a different HDMI cable. Still seeing the same problem.
Would be great is anyone can offer any help here. Thanks.

Disconnect the U2410 from the laptop. On the laptop, open the CNN page and the Intel Graphics. Do you see the same issues? What other video out ports does the laptop have that you can test with the U2410? The issues you show on the CNN page are not present in the Intel Graphics picture? What am I missing that you are seeing?

Hi Chris,
In addition to HDMI, the laptop has a Mini Display Port (www.dell.com/.../pd). However, I don't have the right cable or adapter at hand to test this right now. I might be able to borrow one over the weekend for testing.
To make the issues a little clearer, I just took this 4 minute video:
Before I started taking the video, I had just plugged in the monitor into the laptop via HDMI. I had Firefox open on the laptop before I had connected the monitor. At first, I am just maximizing the Firefox window, with a few tabs open, which does not show the issues that I described earlier. I then quit Firefox and restart it and the issues start to show, with flickering, dots at the top of the browser window and other weird rendering issues.
I then open the Intel Graphics and Media Center. Hovering and opening/closing any of the menus show again flickering and rendering issues with the background of the Media Center window. Text and items seems to randomly appear/disappear.
I then disconnect the monitor from the laptop. Then, on the laptop screen you can see that the Intel Media Center is back to its normal behavior, with the correct rendering. However I then maximize Firefox again and the rendering issues are still present there. Then I close and restart Firefox and the rendering issues are gone (on the built in laptop display).
I hope the video clarifies the issues a little more. I just want to note again, and I think the video shows this, that the rendering issues are contained within the windows of the respective application (Firefox & Intel Media Center). The desktop and other applications like iTunes are rendered correctly without any issues (from what I have tested so far).
Thanks.
Klaus

I am stumped. It appears to be a software or driver issue since it only occurs in Firefox. Moving to the OS board to get their thoughts.
