Transferring files from a computer with Windows 98 (second edition) to a computer with Windows 7.

Hello, I would be grateful if anyone could tell me how to transfer my files from my old computer that has Windows 98 (second edition), to my new Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop which has Windows 7.  I am by no means a computer expert, so it would be appreciated if any solutions could be explained as simple as possible.

Knowing exactly what files you wish to transfer may help us. Is the old W98 PC still functional?

If they are just picture files or other media files you can just copy the files to CD, flash drive, external USB drive, and copy them to a folder of choice in Windows 7.

Thanks for your swift reply.   I wish to transfer everything in My Documents, which consists of letters and reports that I have written with Word.  The old W98 PC is still working OK.

Does the W98 pc have a cd burner, or do you have a flash drive that works with that PC?

USB flash drive is easiest. Depending on the brand used, you will most likely need a driver for it to be able to use it in Windows 98SE. I have some Sandisk USB flash drives and the driver for it for Windows 98SE is available for download from the SanDisk website.
