Error Message - MPFIREWALL.sys

I have a Dimension 8300, Windows XP.  Bought it a month ago.

When running internet explorer I keep getting a serious error.  System stops, jumps me to a blue screen that says "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down..."

It says some other things.. things like check your memory, update your BIOS (which I did- was A04 to A04 the right thing?).  The technical part of the stop message then says:

STOP:  0x0000008e (0xc0000005, 0xf78e32cc, 0xf7cbc9a8, 0x00000000)

.... MPFIREWALL.sys  address f78e32cc base at f78e1000, datestamp 3df0c071

The message also says that it's beginning a physical memory dump.

What is this error?  I called Mcafee since it seemed like a problem with my mcafee firewall.  They told me it was a problem that required me to get in touch with Dell.

Any help would be appreciated!

It is a McAfee error, according to what I found on google doing a search for mpfirewall.sys.

Here is the link to the McAfee article on it.   http://ts.mcafeehelp.com/dell/faq.asp?docid=303&CategoryId=0&chat=

sjones71,

A "Google" search turned up this fix from McAfee. See if it helps.

Thanks guys... I appreciate it.

I did that fix, but it wasn't enough.

But, if anybody else has this problem and this update fix doesn't do it.. and an automatic uninstall (add/remove programs) doesn't do it...

Then do a manual uninstall.  Follow this link:

http://ts.mcafeehelp.com/faq3.asp?docid=71501

And you'll see the manual uninstall instructions.  Seems to have fixed my problem.  We'll see!
