compressed files

Can anyone tell me if you can compress files and open zip files in windows me without third party software?

Yes, you can. The following is from Window Me Secrets:

"Instead of using WinZip's Add to Zip context menu item, you can move files into a compressed zip file (known by Windows as a compressed folder) by right-clicking the file, and clicking Send To > Compressed Folder. A zip file with the same filename is created in the same folder as the original file. You can then drag and drop other files to the compressed folder.
You can extract compressed files from a compressed folder by clicking the zip file in your Explorer to open it, and then dragging icons from the compressed folder window into another Explorer window.

To create a new empty compressed folder on your Desktop, right-click the Desktop and click New > Compressed Folder. Type a new name (with the zip extension), and then drag files to the folder on the Desktop. Of course, you can do this in any folder in your Explorer, not just on your Desktop.
