Why is Dell so slow to update the ATI video driver??

And why cant they fix it so we can download them directly from ATI??

I don't know if this will help but I downloaded from this link on Wednesday and saved it to a CD. I had the 7.3 version bookmarked and when I went back to download it a couple of days later the 7.4 version showed on the link.

I tried to help anyway, if this doesn't apply my appoligies. I downloaded for a X1300 Pro.

not sure how you are managing that - the link bill b posted takes me directly to the drivers download page. the drivers for all 3 of the cards are listed there.

i cant download ATI catalyst mobility drivers from ATI longer.

And the drivers Dell has is old, and not good in vista.

ATI says Dell dont allow us too download directly from them anymore.

We must download drivers from Dell.

Why?

I have always used Omegadrivers for my Dell lappys, but they dont support Vista.

Edit

ex ATI Catalyst mobility 7.3 or 7.4

I can download Catalyst up to 7.2 for Vista directly from ATI

But can you install the drivers?

I cant.
It only says my drivers are up to date, and nothing to upgrade.
I have 7.2 drivers installed.

If i remove 7.2 drivers before install 7.3 or 7.4, the installprogram tells me that it cant find "no supported cards".

Thats correct, but i cant install them, or they wont install, because they dont support mobility card.

Follow your own link, but you have to choose "mobility Radeon".

Okay, i can try this now.

Current versions Catalyst 7.2

Controlcenter: 2007.02.02.1923.34565
Driver           : 8.342.0.0 Date:02.02.2007

R147065 is the same version i have installed already, Catalyst 7.2, so it wont install because there is nothing to upgrade.

Yes, but icant install them because Dell dont wont me too.
For my Asus i have downloaded and installed catalyst 7.3 for mobility from Asus website, have tried that driver for my Dell lappys, but they wont install.
I think its something in the .ini file for the driver.

Asus is fast to deliver updated drivers for ATI, Dell are not.

Thats bad, because i like my Dell lappys way more than Asus.

Im sorry for my bad english, im from norway.=)

This problem are for Nvidia too, but laptopvideo2go.com delivers updated drivers.

Thanks!!

That sounds wery good=)

Maybe you can tip the driverdepartment about bluetooth and truemobile networkcards drivers too??=)

They are all very old, and not optimal for Vista.

I now use Toshiba Bluetooth stack v5.10.06 downloaded from Toshiba.
They are for Toshibas nootebooks, bur works for my Dells too=)
And working wery well under Vista.

I can se that Toshiba is delivering the bluetooth stack driver for truemobile 350 from dells webside, but that one is old and not all functions are supported and working under Vista.

Good to hear!!

Thanks for all good help here.

Toshiba is fast yes, but thats because they are making the bluetooth drivers for Dell too?

Not all versions of from Toshiba will install on a Dell, i think thats about the .ini for the program=)
Toshiba must have forgotten block other notebookvendors before the put this release out for download.. i think=)

What I always used to do with a laptop I had from a company that went bust so no longer updated their drivers was to use a tool called the DH ModTool which you can get from here: http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool/. What this allows you to do is use the desktop version of ATI drivers for a mobility card, so you would need to go to http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html and instead of clicking on mobility radeon click on radeon and download the driver for your equivalent model card. Once the drivers have downloaded run the ATI file and it will extract them to the default directory then try and run setup but will stop becuase they are not mobility drivers, once this happens, close setup and run the modtool and it should detect the default directory automatically then you just click the Go Mobile button and follow the prompts.

Hope this helps as it means you can install new drivers as soon as they come out rather than waiting for dell.
