AOL: Always wanting to dial a connection

Hi.  I have a cable internet connection connected to a cable modem and router and have my computer configured to use the LAN and "never dial a connection."  However, frequently, when some application wants to phone home, e.g., yahoo instant messenger, I'm prompted on whether I want to use the AOL dial up connection.  I find this odd, because I do not have a telephone modem connected to my computer, and, as mentioned, I have my computer configured to never dial a connection.  I always say no to the prompt, but it's very annoying.  Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated.  If you need more information, please let me know.  Thanks in advance for your help.

I would try uninstalling and reinstalling AOL. At some point during the installation, you should be asked if you want to make AOL your default program for accessing the internet. Make sure you say NO.

By the way, my work laptop has AT&T dial-up capability, even though I usually use a high speed connection, and the AT&T dialer does the same thing, resets my connection preference to use the dial-up program. The "Help Desk" guys haven't been able to figure out why it does this.

Osprey4,

Thanks for the suggestion.  I'll try uninstalling and reinstaling AOL and see if that does the trick.  Thanks, again.

also see if there is an AOL connection in network connections located in control panel. Removing it might help.

I think his point is that the setting in the connection tab changes to Always dial. You could delete the AOL connection option but it would reappear the next time you sign on.
