VPLEX Devices visualization

Hi all,

I'm quite new with VPLEX, just attended a training course.

On my production environmet I have several virtual volumes each one of them composed by one distributed device, below an example:

VPlexcli:/clusters/cluster-1/virtual-volumes/device_C-VNX0_C-VPLEX0-VMDK-10_1_vol> drill-down -o .

virtual-volume: device_C-VNX0_C-VPLEX0-VMDK-10_1_vol (cluster-1)

   distributed-device: device_C-VNX0_C-VPLEX0-VMDK-10_1

      distributed-device-component: device_C-VNX0_C-VPLEX0-VMDK-10_12012May12_211324 (cluster-1)

         extent: extent_C-VNX0_C-VPLEX0-VMDK-10_1

            storage-volume: C-VNX0_C-VPLEX0-VMDK-10 (blocks: 0 - 268435455)

      distributed-device-component: device_H-VNX0_C-VPLEX0-VMDK-10_1 (cluster-2)

         extent: extent_H-VNX0_C-VPLEX0-VMDK-10_1

            storage-volume: H-VNX0_C-VPLEX0-VMDK-10 (blocks: 0 - 268435455)

As you can see every distributed device is composed by 2 devices (one for cluster-1 and one for cluster-2).

My question is: why I cannot see any device from the GUI? (see attached picture).

I can see extents and virtual volumes without problems.devices.JPG.jpg

Thank you.

Matteo

Hi,

The reason you don't see the devices is that once a device becomes part of another device (or distributed device) it is no longer listed in devices.  You will find those devices as components of the "top level device."  So in your case, the top level devices are the distributed devices.  If you look at the distributed devices context in the GUI and highlight one, you will see the component devices in the panel along the right side.
