Some USB devices not recognized without absurd workaround

I have a Vostro 7510 and usually USB devices work okay, but I have 2 very important USB devices that have a strange recognition issue. One is a USB clip-on microphone, the other is a label printer that connects through the USB port. Both of these devices were recognized, driver installed, and worked fine initially. But then both succumbed to a strange affliction where they are not recognized by the system (no acknowledgement in device manager or anywhere) when they are plugged in, until the relevant Windows troubleshooter is run!

For example, this is my workflow for using the label printer:

- Start label printing software and plug in printer. Software says printer is disconnected.

- Start Windows printer troubleshooter. Wait for it to finish. Troubleshooter says that no problems were found.

- Unplug label printer

- Plug in label printer

Now the software says the printer is connected and I can print labels. However, the next time I have to print labels, if I've unplugged the label printer in the meantime, I have to run the troubleshooter all over again. It's never a permanent fix.

It's a similar workflow for the USB microphone.

I've tried many solutions, like deleting and re-installing the drivers, etc etc etc. to no avail. If this only happened with one USB device, I'd maybe chalk it up to quirky hardware, but it's now happening on two unrelated devices.

What could the troubleshooter be doing? and how can I make its fix permanent?

If all other USB devices are working okay, there is nothing wrong with your Vostro or the USB ports.  Contact manufacturers' support for clip-on microphone and label printer for Windows compatibility.  The permanent fix will need to come from those devices manufacturers.

@Chino de Oro Thank you for the reply! Would your answer be the same if you knew that no other users of this popular label printer (DYMO Labelwriter) report having the problem that I have?

Is there anything you can make of the fact that the troubleshooter fixes the problem, but only temporarily?

The device itself is not faulty, but its driver may have conflicted settings with your laptop settings which is managed by Microsoft Windows.  Each times you restart the system, Windows performs some scanning and taken certain self repair actions including the connection of your label printer device.  If it has been reported to the manufacturer of the printer by others before you.  They might have some useful support information.  Hence the reason for referring to check with them.

Otherwise, you can wait for other community users with the same issue but already have a permanent fix and will provide you with a solution.

I have the same problem with anything I plug into a hub.

I have a J5Create hub and a Dell DiplayLink (Docking Station) hub. When I have the Dell mouse or Dell Keyboard plugged into either hub, they will work for about 5 to 10 minutes before going "Unrecognized". I have to unplug the hub or the mouse or the keyboard to get them working again. They do not fail at the same time. Sometimes the keyboard fails first. But they always fail after a while. Something goes for my headset when plugged into either hub.

It just happened again while typing this reply.

I updated the BIOS, drivers and everything that can be updated. This computer has only 2 standard USB ports at opposite sides of the laptop. I have turn off power saving for all USB post via the Device Manager.

I don't know if it is a Dell issue or a Windows 11 issue. It only happens with this Vostro Laptop.

Just to be clear, it happens with all devices (Hubs, Mouse and Keyboard) being Dell products. Even my monitors are Dell. I can't possibly be the only clown suffering from these issues with the USB ports.

I think it is a Windows 11 issue, but I have no proof and no solution.
