Vostro 200 MT, No audio with XP

I have obtained a Vostro 200 mini tower - I upgraded the HDD to a larger unit but after re-installing Windows XP I now have no audio and get a message that there is no audio installed.  I have installed the Realtek driver from the Dell Vostro site but still no sound.  I am running XP with SP3 - Anyone have any suggestions to how I cure this problem ?  Thanks.

Check the BIOS.  There is an option to enable or disable the "on board audio connector"

Better yet, do a CMOS memory clear as that may also help.  Considering age, the battery probably should be replaced.  With the PC powered off, open the case and remove the CR2032 coin cell battery from the motherboard for at least 10 minutes.  Reinstall (or replace with a new one) then power up and see if the sound is enabled.

There was an option to have a separate SoundBlaster sound card.  If this has the SoundBlaster the on-board (Realtek) must be disabled in the BIOS and SoundBlaster drivers installed.
