Need help with a Dell Vostro 5880 850 PSU upgrade

Need help finding a proprietary  850watt Dell PSU compatible with Dell Vostro 5880.

Ive cross referenced a few Dell Server PSU’s but the pins and wiring diagram dont appear to match.

Need this PSU upgrade for a Nvidia RTX 3080ti graphics card and the PSU I have is the 460 watt bronze.

Any help from Dell or anyone that has had experience with the PSU upgrade would be much appreciated.

Thank You

Highest oem psu is Dell 460w to 500w proprietary c/w Dell G5 or XPS 8940.

You do not need 850w to run 3080ti.  If you do not use dvd, 500w psu is sufficient.

basic online psu calculator estimates

Load Wattage: 494 W (i7-10700+3080Ti+sata ssd+hdd, no DVD)

You can use aftermarket higher power SFX 24/4 pin psu and 24 to 6 pin adapter.

this has been verified to work in 8940.

Thank you for your reply.

My concern for a 800 watt PSU with the 3080ti is the transient power spiking that Gamers Nexus addressed that occurs with many PSU's and GPU's that are higher in performance than the RTX 3070.

The second issue is overall efficiency performance. I would rather have a gold rated 800watt PSU, versus a 500watt platinum PSU because of the power curve and efficiency of that PSU regardless of the minimal demand.

I will look into the 500 watt XPS PSU and make a determination if it can handle the transient power spike surge protection

I need a larger power supply for my Dell Vostro 5880 Desktop PC. I currently have a 460W PSU, but I would like to upgrade to a 600W since I upgraded my SSD from 512 GB to 1TB and my video card to a ZOTAC GeForce GTX1070 Mini 8GB Video card for gaming. Will the Vostro 5880 will handle a 600W PSU ok?

Thanks,

Your 460w PSU should do ok with a 145w GPU as long as all the connections are there.  Much easier than trying to upgrade PSU.  In case of any doubt, go down in watts a little with the GPU.
