Inspiron 9470 two bad hard drives!!! Is it the hard drive??

My new laptop. Had it for 3 months.  Original hard drive failed.  Took two weeks to get it replaced by a tech.  Tech wasn't able to get bios to recognize it, nor the USB drive.  Called tech service and they claim that this hard drive is bad also.  Is that seriously possible?  How many times do they need to replace my hard drive before they start looking at something else??  I use this laptop for work and can't be without it.  Using a friends old and slow computer now.  

Anyone else experience this problem?  Also had a problem with the screen jumping from left to right while in the middle of work.  Very random, but very often.  Is this computer a lemon?  

Thanks for all input.  Waiting again for a delayed hard drive and another tech visit, so if you have any trouble shooting thoughts, please share them.

Hard drives will fail. Not usually so fast but I have seen it happen. I would hope that if they encounter another bad HDD they will replace it with an SSD. Tell them that with all the delays and with the system being a must have for work, you want an SSD which is far more reliable and faster.

9470 does not come up as a Dell laptop?  are you sure it is Inspiron and correct model?

Sorry, 7490 is the correct model number.

7490 uses M.2 ssd only, no hard drive.  you can buy an M.2 2230/2280 solid-state drive yourself and install OS.  But if it is within warranty, let Dell replace it for you.  I am surprised of your wait.  When my Dell laptop had faulty part, they immediately shipped me overnight an empty box and kept on reminding me to ship the laptop back to their factory depot asap.  I did and the repair was done on same day and shipped back.  super fast.  next time maybe consider depot repair than tech visit.  the tech at depot may be more experienced than field agent.  I have heard many stories of incompetent field agent.

Thanks for this info! Computer is 3 months old. I was told that if this upcoming 3rd hard drive doesn't work, then they ship to a depot. Glad to hear that the depot is much faster! I was thinking it would be much longer. 

If this doesn't fix it, I will be sure to get them to install a SSD next.
