Does Vostro 3690 support 8TB HDD ? (Or max how many TBs does it supports ?)

 Hi, guys out there.

Vostro 3690

i3-10105, Intel B560

SATA2 and SATA3.

USB3.0

Manual claims that Vostro 3690 supports up to 2TB HDD.

But I'd like to upgrade from current 1TB HDD to 8TB on SATA3. If SATA3 does not detect larger than 2TB, then does USB3.0 on board support larger than 2TB (via a SATA3 TO USB3.0 adapter)? How many TBs max supported ?

Thx in advance.

Best, Dave.

@love-i310105

There is no limit for drive size other than $$$Cost.

ExaDrive is available in capacities ranging from 16 TB to 100 TB.

The 100TB EXAdrive is $40,000

Thx speedstep !

Really ?

BTW, I prefer using 8TB via SATA3 TO USB3 adapter. I have an adapter with 5-12V and 2000mA output.  Does 2000mA work well to run 8TB HDD ?

Thx.

According to this the theoretical address limit of SATA is 131072 TiB. I believe your adapter provides 24W on the 12V side (2A * 12V) while 5V power is provided by your USB connection. Your drive specs would determine whether 24W is enough.

@NJDave

Maxed "SATA is 131072 TiB." drive would be Very expensive so I still say the practical limit is what you can $$$$ pay for.  $40,000 for a single exa drive is quite excessive IMHO..

Thx, speedstep !

After research via Google search, I ordered a MEANWELL(Taiwan) 12V 5A DC adapter.

What I ordered is GSM60A12-P1J(quality for medical device) instead of --T--------. The former is more stable,  it has 100mVp-p while the latter(--T---------) has120mVp-p.
