Windows Firewall & Ransomware

I purchased my Dell Laptop 4 months ago. It came with McAfee Virus protection. Lastmonth I had malware on my computer. After looking into the errors I noticed that my Windows Firewall was turned off. Windows would not allow me to turn on the firewall due to McAfee - McAfee was unable to detect or delete the multiple trojans I had on my computer. I installed Microsoft Security Essentials and was able to get my computer cleaned of all viruss'. I uninstalled McAfee in order to get my windows firewall back on. I was unable to do so. My firewall is still shut off. NOW I have Ransomware on my computer that I cannot delete. - Trojan tobfy.a - a very nasty one. I have exausted all my searches, knowing I need to delete the malware/ransomeware from my computer before I can even try and turn on my firewall. I have also restored my system and was still unable to remove the virus. I need some help... and I do not want to read about PAYING for something the virus scanner I WAS paying for should of fixed!

System - Windows 7 64Bit

Please someone help me clear this up

Hi Ashley,

Dell Community no longer does one-on-one free malware removal. However, my suggestion is to post the required DDS logs on the Malware Removal Forum at SpywareHammer and have the staff trained in malware removal walk you through the diagnostic logs and a cleanup. They do not use remote access but will advise you step-by-step on what you can do. Please do not attempt to run any additional scans, install software, or use any other tools until an analyst can advise you on the next step. Please use the same username there as you have here. Help is free, but you will need to register there and follow the posting instructions. I will contact them to approve your registration soon after you register. Please remember to click on the link that you receive in your registration email to confirm.

The instructions on their Malware Removal Forum will inform you of where to download DDS and how to run a scan to post the output information. If you are unable to run the scan, please let your helper know that.

In addition, there are other options listed at the top of the this forum. Some are free; some require a fee. Please use only one resource. It can be counter-productive to have too many people trying to help. Good luck! :emotion-1:

One-on-one Malware Analysis/Removal is no longer done at the Dell Forums.

Please follow the directions at http://spywarehammer.com/simplemachinesforum/index.php?topic=12262.0 to register and post the requested logs at spywarehammer.com ; there are expert helpers there who can "walk you through" procedures to analyze your system, and clean-up the infection.   All help provided there is FREE.   If you decide to go for help there, please wait for a response, and do NOT attempt to run any other scans/removers on your own --- do exactly what they instruct you to do, no more, no less.

Good luck!

Thanks! Pushing the malware issue aside... any idea why my laptop will not allow me to turn on my firewall?

Yes, the malware has most likely disabled the firewall. Hoov is one of the best security analysts at SpywareHammer. You are in good hands. He'll take care of the infection and address any lingering problems.

I'm going to close this topic now so that you can continue over there.
