spyware doctor
I have used spyware doctor on my computers for about 2 years and it appears to pick up more intrusions than Norton 2006 and Microsoft Beta. It reciently picked up an intrustion and left a message that I should reopen the computer in safe mode and run the rescan in that mode. Has anyone else had this and what do you think of Spyware Doctor? Since I am fairly new to the computer field and all that is self taught (trial and error) and am out in the country(120 miles from anyware) would appreciate any help with what spyware or virius programs I should have. Thanks

You will finds lots of choices and lots of different reviews on the performance of various products. I would try to read as much as you can and visit various sites (like this one) to find out what various pc users are currently running for their AV and SPYWARE protection.
In general one AV and two Adware pieces of software seem to work fairly well. Some users have more adware protection in their arsenal.
For AV I have been using a product from ESET called NOD32 and find it excellent. A 30 day trial is free (many AV vendors offer free trials). Another excellent one is AVG (Grisoft) and they have a free version as well.
