Server to server tracking...
Consumer Reports published a shocking report that 186,892 companies are sending data about their users/customers to Facebook (Meta).
On average, each participant in this study had their data sent to Facebook by 2,230 companies.
The study examined a form of tracking, normally hidden from users, called server-to-server tracking, in which personal data is sent from a company’s servers directly to Meta’s servers. Another form of Meta tracking is when Meta's tracking pixels are embedded on company websites, and visible to a user’s browsers for sharing.
Retailers including Home Depot, Macy’s, and Walmart, were in the top 100 most frequently seen companies sharing data with Meta, according to the study. Credit reporting and consumer data companies including Experian and TransUnion’s Neustar also made the list, as did Amazon, Etsy, and PayPal.
The report says even Consumer Reports shares data with data brokers "in order to help support its mission". BUT, there's no indication to whom data CR sells is being re-sold, but presumably to Meta, etc. So CR is guilty too...
