VMAX SMI-S
Does anyone know if I can install the EMC SMI-S provider on the Solutioner Enablers host without overwriting the exisiting SE version. In other words can we add SMI-S on top of the current SE install. Currently have SE installed but no SMI-S and want to add it.
Also any good instructions/links/pointers for configuring the SMI-S provider following a successful installation.

Unfortunately, You will have first to uninstall the current version of SE and then install SMI-S which contains SE libraries. This has been mentioned in SMI-S release notes
For testing SMI-S you can use testprovider.exe tool. It is hipped with SMI-S. For further instruction please check (EMC kb8309)
Hope this helps.

Thank you for the response.
Is it safe to over-write the existing version of SE. This is a test environment also.

After upgrading SE to now include the SMI-S provider I am trying to addsys. However I am not sure what username/password I need to add. Is this some default account or can I create one in Unisphere for VMAX for the SMI-S provider,

Is SMI-S rejecting the user/password? Or might it be a symauth-related error? If you would, please provide the output or a screenshot.

I think you are over-complicating things here. Present gatekeepers to the SE environment, do a symcfg discover and then SMI-S will see the arrays. From within the Testsmiprovider.exe, run a "dv" and you will see the arrays:
(localhost:5988) ? dv

When it asks for the Ip which Ip address is it - service processor?? I know for clariion it is the Storage Processor (PSA, SPB) but not sure for VMAX.
Also if I select to provide the array id is this the same as the Serial number from Unisphere for VMAX window.
Do I perhaps need to create some account from within EMC Unisphere for VMAX to connect to. From the SMI-S server I am using admin/#1Password

Yes...dv has discovered the arrays. So I did not have to addsys afterall. Much appreciated.
