Symcfg discover no devices

Hi all

Just install the latest SE 7.6 on to my fresh installation windows 2003 X64. With network communication between the symmetrix (DMX4), and the management host server.

Pingable between the symmetrix and the host server. However when i tried to run symcfg discover, it return with no new devices. And i come list any device using symcfg list as it return the same message that no new devices. The question now is whether to enable communication between the SE and symmetrix storage require to zone a gatekeeper lun first before it can be discoverable by the host server.

What is the necessary steps to be require for the Host Server to be able to discover by the host server, be it hardware side or configuration setting that are pre-requiste requires?

Thanks

yes, you need to zone your host first ..Symmetrix uses in-band management.

Is this your very first management host connected to a brand new array?

Actually it use the management host used to be ECC and has prove to be hard & complex to use so we done a upgrade from ECC to unisphere. However there are some changes along the way from the zoning area and was told that unisphere require network communication only.

Unless you are using Unisphere that is installed on the service processor itself, you will need to zone your Unisphere server to the array and present gatekeepers.

If you had a host with Solutions Enabler deployed on it that already had gatekeeper devices you could install Unisphere for VMAX with Solutions Enabler in "remote" mode where it connected to another SymmAPI server to pass through the management, but you are much better off connecting gatekeepers directly to your management host as dynamox suggested.

The host server is connected to the storage after the zoning.

yes the symcfg list is able to see the array. However when i launch my unisphere, the login in user is not able to discover the user. Initially when i run symauth list -user, i cannot see any user in the database. In the end i tried to add the user into the database and finally i see the user list in the database with 'Admin' Role but i still can't discover the array. Finally i reinstall my SE and Unisphere and then i can see the it discover the array.

However now the array is now visible to the unisphere.

not sure if that is a typo in your last sentence. So you are good, you can see your array in Unisphere ?
