transfer files from old computer to new
hi, how do i transfer files from old laptop to new? I think i just need the MY DOCs file as I will install all programs with the original cd's. do i have to save each file to a memory stick or cd??? seems like it would take forever...is there a way to connect the 2 computers and let them "talk" to each other to transfer files?

If you have a hub, switch or router, you can network the two systems. You could also remove the drive from the older system, mount it in an external case ($10-20) and attach it to the new system by USB.

You cannot use a standard USB cable, no. There are USB networking adapters you can use - but if both computers have network (ethernet) ports, the simplest way is to connect them both to a hub, switch or router. If you don't have one, you can use an RJ45 to RJ45 crossover cable (this is NOT the same as an ordinary Ethernet cable).

I jsut went to my local best buy and circuit and they didn't have a sleeve or case for this harddrive...they said oh that one is different than 99% of them????

how big is you "my docs" folder? i have a 4GB usb drive and i can fill it in 5mins... you could burn it to dvd... they are almost 5GB

My old laptop is a Latitude X1 -hard drive is a toshiba. New computer is Latitude D430.
I gave up....can't make it happen.o
