My laptop wont read discs and wont let me eject them Help please!

I can't get my laptop ( a Dell XPS L511Z ) to read the disk I currently have in it, (it's a DVD if that helps)  it acts like there's nothing in there, I don't mind that not working but the disk inside isn't mine and I need it out asap

When I open up the device manager to look at the disk drive it says; Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

The disk does not show up on My computer and the eject button does not work at all.

I dont care about fixing the disk drive that much but as I stated before the disk currently inside is not mine and I need it out asap, any help would very much be appreciated.

Hi comicsandslushies,

Welcome to the Dell Community Forum,

If a disc seems stuck in the drive and does not eject when you press the eject button, no mechanical ejection mechanism like an eject hole on other drives is available. Try these steps to remove the disc:

  • Eject the disc using software such as Windows® Explorer.
  • Turn off the system and retry on boot to eject the disc.
  • Try ejecting the disc in System Setup or Dell Diagnostics.

Complete the same and let us know the results of the same.

Hi Comicsandslishies,

Please try the Microsoft Fixit utility (link below). This normally fixes the code 19 problem.
