Do you know if Site Verification is needed or not in installing ESRS IP Client for VNX?

Hi,

I am planning to install ESRS IP Client for VNX.

I checked ESRS Site Verification by esrs.emc.com/esrs/provisioning/siteId/XXXXXXX/deviceType/ESRS-GW/siteVerification.

And then, I got messaige of "<errorMessage>Site doesn't have a valid ESRS Part number in CSI errorMessage>".

I could not find any discription that says Site Verification is needed for ESRS IP Client for VNX as well as ESRS GW Client.

Do you know if Site Verification is needed or not in installing ESRS IP Client for VNX?

No license verification needed for the IP Client.  It authentictes using the customer's online support account.  Just to note to others, the link you mention is only for EMC support to verify ESRS licenses for the full version of ESRS 2.x and ESRS 3.x (VE).  For VNX systems, we would also recommend the embedded device clients instead of provisioning a new Windows server for IP Client.  All flavors of VNX have ESRS built-in now with the latest code levels.

For the embedded device clients, you just need outbound 443 and 8443 ports to EMC servers, and DNS enabled.  Same levels of high security, and often easier to implement.

The other option I would be recommend is to deploy the ESRS VE instead. The new code of VNX Block has ConnectEMC embedded in to the storage processors, so the necessity of IP Client is no longer needed.  We are trying to move off the requirement of having the customer provide a separate Windows server for VNX Block call home alerting. However you mentioned the site does not have an ESRS license, so this would need to be ordered (at least for the current version of VE).

If the customer is okay with providing a Windows 7 or 2008 R2 server, and they only have VNX devices from EMC, then the IP Client is still a good option.

hi,  ryanbrancel

thank you for good reply.

Customer is concerned that VNX is connected to internet directly if there would be proxy server between VNX and GAS.
