SCG5 vs SRS w/Policy-Manager and OMIVV

Greetings. I'm reviewing the documentation for SCG5; however, it seems unclear if this is the appropriate tool for us to deploy in our environment. Our storage engineer already has SRS (albeit an older version, back on 3.52) and Policy-Manager deployed- and I, myself (the virtualization engineer), have had OMIVV (5.3.1) already deployed within the environment for some time.

Would the deployment of SCG5 allow us to dovetail the functionality of both of these separately-deployed tools into a single appliance? The storage engineer has a Unity300 and Isilon configured, while my virtual SAN is currently running around twenty Dell R730/740/640 to power a mix of around 500 Linux and Windows VMs.

Do we replace SRS and Policy-Manager with SCG5 and retain OMIVV- or would bringing SCG5 online allow us to sunset SRS, Policy-Manager *and* OMIIVV altogether? Thank you.

Hello mmangold-ou,

SCG has a Policy Manager so it can replace SAE and SRS with Policy Manager

It would not replace the functions OMIVV does like firmware updates and OS deployment.

Hello mmangold-ou,

SupportAssist Enterprise and Secure Remote Services capabilities are integrated into Secure Connect Gateway (SCG) technology. So you could replace those.

A lot of information is covered here Frequently asked questions – Secure Connect Gateway

I do not think it can replace OMIVV but I will have to do more checking on that.
