Critical ESXi vulnerability - Remove USB Controller for SCG

Hi,

VMware released critical vulnerability for ESXi https://www.vmware.com/security/advisories/VMSA-2024-0006.html

The appliance Secure Connect Gateway has one USB controller configured, can I remove this or it's in use and necessary to SCG

Thanks for your response.

Hi, it is essential to ascertain if the USB controller is actively utilized or required for the Secure Connect Gateway’s (SCG) functionality. Should the USB controller be redundant for any vital operations or hardware, its removal could be considered secure. However, if you’re unsure about the impact, it’s best to consult by contacting your local Dell software team. I review the SCG manual but the documentation doesn’t specifically state that the USB controller is essential; however, it’s crucial to understand that the SCG is designed to gather telemetry data automatically for diagnosing issues, and this process could require the use of different hardware components.

Hope that helps!
