SAP BW - Parallel Processing
I must admit I still getting my head around BW so I have a basic question about it. We have a lot customer growing their BW environment and some have been asking us about parallel processing (greenplum as an example) and what would be the trigger points to consider that rather than going with a more standard DB approach. My understanding is that parallel processing would be a good fit for high volume cases where you would be for example a lot of users generating a lot of frequently reports; etc....
I know it will depend but overall what's your take on this and if you could back up with some examples you have come across is great.

SAP has announced HANA is available on SAP Smart Meter Analytics, Greenplum is based on PostGres, not sure if it is supported with SAP.

Hi Ed - Thanks for the response and yeap you are right! I researched and couldn't find any mentioned of SAP supporting Postgres; so that takes Greenplum out of consideration. HANA is very promising and SAP is delivering on their promises and already selling a lot of licenses of it , however some customers have immediate needs around BW (either becuase of hardware refresh or growth) and these are the ones that are trying to find ways to improve BW performance hence the parallel processing question.
I guess for most of them; if the underlying infrastucture is correctly sized they can continue with their BW environment and wait for HANA.

Everton,
HANA is only available on SAP Smart Meter Analytics, I believe It would take long time to make SAP business suite ported on it.
If a customer met a BW performance, especially on Data load part, GreenPlum is considerable to solve the issues they have, because GP does support various ETL tool and Client access, ODBC,JDBC, etc and it is approved fastest loader.
Oh….if SAP could make HANA happen as the vision he drop on the world, I am doubted if BW would be there.
