How to get communications between two servers working again? (Communications error)

Hello everyone,

I ran into a communications problem between two servers when one of the servers happened to crash and was restarted.  It hasn't been able to fully synchronize and all the archive files are being saved onto the D: Drive.  It keeps coming up with the error of:

Blocking site serverA at (RcvIamAlive). Binding.

Reason: Site serverA comm failed due to Communications error.

Windows-text: 10054 - An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.

Description

The site is now blocked for the reason specificed in the Windows error text.

Resolution

1. Correct the communications problem.

2. Unblock the site, or just wait to let it auto-unblock at a later time.

Any help on this matter would be much appreciated.

Irfan

Hey Jay,

Thanks for the quick response.

I pinged both servers and they work just fine.  The services you are talking about are the Replistor Server and Control Service services?

There's also a weird part that even though the communication error keeps occurring, I can see that on serverB, the SCAN, MANV, and CHAR files are getting updated but by a day behind.

I can see in the Monitor window, that the Sites and Disk Space traffic lights are yellow.  Would I have to redo the connection from serverA to serverB?

Not sure what EMC backup product you are using, but some general thoughts:

if the product is a client-server app, then maybe you have network/fw issues preventing you from seeing

Have you tried to ping the machine name and then the IP address of ?

Try tho do the same from the Server to the client, and then the client to the server to see if that works.

if the client-server app needs specific ports open, you can run a "netstat -anbo" to see the status of

      the specific ports

have you tried stopping/restarting the backup app's services (windows) to see if that helps?

Sorry...we're heading outside my expertise here...network connections and "Replistor Server and Control Service services" are not something I deal with every day.  here's hoping that someone else who sees this post will jump in and be able to give you the next thing to try!
