RecoverPoint Performance - consistency groups - number of members (use only one or multiple)

Hello,

being completely new to recoverpoint i see in the manual that there is a note:

The VM that you select to protect will be added to an existing consistency group that is already protecting a VM. For best performance, you should only protect one VM per consistency group.

Now originally i was planning to do consistency groups with multiple VMs in them. Actually a lot of them as they would all have the same settings anyway. Also the recommendation from our partner pointed at the limit of 512 consistency groups (which doesn´t affect us today with like 360 VMs but might at some point).

How much of a performance hit does this create if you put multiple ones in the same cg?

So are you usually using on cg for one VM in real life?

Since we just started our Migration to new Hardware (Replacing legacy Simplivity Hosts with Dell vxRail) i am honestly curious as to what kind of impact all those replications will have on the system over all. It should be factored into the sizing but i don´t really see a lot more ressources being put aside for this part and replication of 360 VMs with one local copy and one remote copy sounds interesting.

Since we asked for a second backup technology (in the Past we had Rubrik Snapshot based and Simplivity storage based) we will see how it goes with Rubrik and recovery point now in the new setup. While replication might be favorable over classic backups i will wait to see how much performance this will eat up.

Best regards,

ela
