License upgrade from RP/SE to RP/EX
Hello all!
I have an environment with the following configuration:
Site1: VNX5500 (RP/SE)
Site2: VNX5400 (RP/SE)
Now we will configure a new UNITY AFA virtualized by a VPLEX Local at Site1 and we must "migrate" the VNX5500 to VPLEX/UNITY and configure RecoverPoint for those volumes.
UNITY and VNX5400 (Site2) have RP/EX upgrade licenses. But VNX5500 (Site1) do not have, as it will be desatived after migration.
Until the migrations do not finish, we will must have both VNX5500 and VPLEX/UNITY configured on the RecoverPoint cluster on Site1.
My plan is:
1) Upgrade the current RecoverPoint System from RP/SE to RP/EX.
2) License the RecoverPoint cluster on Site2 for RP/EX
3) RecoverPoint on Site1 regarding VNX5500 will stay unlicensed. In this scenario, the current replication will keep running normally???
4) Configure RecoverPoint on Site1 for VPLEX/UNITY and license it. (Is it possible to have the VNX5500 unlicensed and VPLEX/UNITY licensed at the same time?)
5) Migrate data from VNX5500 to VPLEX/UNITY and create new RSet for each LUN that is migrated.
6) After all migrations finish, remove the VNX5500 from RecoverPoint cluster at Site1
This makes sense? Specially about item 3, regarding funcionallity of RecoverPoint for VNX5500 when this will be unlicensed after conversion of RP/SE to RP/EX. Because we cannot stop the current replications until all migrations finish.
Thanks in advance any help!

Hi Bruno,
Yes, you can request a temp license via an SR. The usual duration is 90 days but you can request 180 if it is needed or alternatively re-request a new temp license once the first temp license is close to expiry.
Yes, this is the correct KB.

Hi Rich!
Is it possible to request a temporary EX license, in this case, to VNX5500? How can i do that and how long it works?
About the Repository Migration, i found the article "Article: 000303715 (RecoverPoint: Non-disruptive migration of Repository Volume). Is that the corrrect procedure?

Hi Bruno,
Some feedback for you.
0) Remove the RP/SE licensing. Note that this does not impact existing replication.
1) This is a conversion. Ensure you upgrade to the top of 4.4.x, 5.0.x or 5.1 before conversion.
4) Apply permanent EX licensing to the VPLEX and VNX5400 arrays and temporary EX licensing to the VNX5500.
5a) Perform repository migration from VNX5500 to the VPLEX.
