iDRAC 6 not responding

I have an old R515. I want to reuse this as testmachine ans educational purposes

I was able to approach iDRAC. It seems to be a dedicated port, but in the iDRAC settings the options is set on "Shared". "Dedicated" is not available.

After a few reboots the DRAC was not reponding anymore. The lights on the DRAC NIC do not turn on anymore. The nic seems dead.

I have no boot errors. I can alter the iDRAC settings by hitting F10 in the boot options.

I there a way to "revive" the iDRAC NIC?

From screen shot looks like you are trying to upload file "iDRAC6_1.95_A00_FW_IMG.exe".

"iDRAC6_1.95_A00_FW_IMG.exe" file is self-extractable application. You can double click and extract the content to a folder. "firmimg.d6" file on that extracted folder is the iDRAC image file and you need to upload this file on iDRAC

I have an old EMC R515 with iDRAC 6 . I try to update the FW. I will use this as a testbox.

Current iDRAC FW = 1.90. Even the next available version 1.95 will not load.

I download this from https://www.dell.com/support/home/be/nl/bebsdt1/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=cmdn0&oscode=ws8r2&productcode=poweredge-r515

Can I still update the FW?

Driekes,

I would start with powering it off and remove the power cables, then clear the NVram with the jumpers on the motherboard (located near the vga and serial ports). While clearing the NVram I would suggest reseating the iDrac Enterprise card (shown below). With you stating you are seeing a Dedicated iDrac port on the server you should have and Enterprise card installed.  After reseating the iDrac, add the power cables back to the server, but don't power it on for at least 2 minutes. This will allow the iDrac time to initialize.

After the delay then power on and let me know what you see.

It looks like 2 post got mixed up. Sorry.

The post on iDRAC not updating is solved.

The issue on the iDRAC not being accessible trough the dedicated is not.

Chris,

Yes it has a dedicated iDRAC port. But in the settings I could see something like "Express". Not "Enterprise".

In the settings I cannot set iDRAC to dedicated. Only "shared" and "failover on LOMx". Maybe I am going crazy but I tought I used the dedicated NIC last week.

I just did some updates and maybe I should check again. (Not latest version 2.90 because of an issue in updating)

I can approach iDRAC via the same NIC as the OS. Which I do not understand. I can approach the server remotely and the iDRAC at the same time. So 2 IP's on one port?

This Thursday I will try your instructions on the jumper reset.

Hi Chris,

I do not have the time to check on this. It is not so important. I can reach iDRAC via a shared NIC.

Thanks for your reply.
