seeking a quiet TKL keyboard
I'm looking for suggestions on buying a tenkeyless quiet keyboard for use with my Dell XPS 8700 desktop PC. I have done jsut enough reading to become thoroughly confused (Cherry MX red or brown? Topre? Mechanical or membrane? Apple chiclets?) I am a writer and use it just for typing, no gaming at all. I'd be willing to consider a gaming keyboard if it is tkl and very quiet.
I don't like a lot of clatter when I type, so quieter is better. And I don't want a number pad; I want the mouse closer to the keys I use. I think I want a corded USB keyboard; I tried the Microsoft Arc keyboard and the batteries ran out too fast, and it sometimes went haywire and transmitted wrong keys. So I'm wary of wireless. A USB cable is just fine.
At present I'm using a Gearhead tkl keyboard, which has some of the direction and backspace keys strangely placed and hard to learn; it is slightly smaller than standard and I am finding that harder to get used to than I'd hoped. But finally it makes a loud snapping sound when the key returns to the up position. When I type down it's not a bad sound, but the pop up is loud.
Any recommendations?

I'd like a tenkeyless keyboard just as you describe. Did you end up finding one?
