Dell Media Experience will not play DVD
New 600m. Dell Media Experience pre-installed. I put in Spider-Man and it comes up with a message "This disc is intended for play on non-modified Region 1 players." Disc works fine on my I8100 with WinDVD. Research shows this is some type of protection that Universal has on the DVD. Player on 600m is set to region 1. Stumped...

Chris:
Unfortunately, my DVD collection consists of the prior mentioned DVD. I joined Netflix for a few months, but dropped it for the summer as business was done and so was my travel... I plan on testing others, but was suspecting this was an easy fix.

The answer is yes. Cold Mountain works fine. So it appears that Columbia has some type of new protection on it...
The Spider-Man DVD has "Regional Coding Enhancement" on it. That is to make sure that a region 1 DVD only plays on a region 1 player.
The LG player in my I8100 is set to Region 1, and has 4 changes left (i.e. it's never been changed).
The Sony player in my 600m is set to Region 1, and has 4 changes left (i.e. it's never been changed).
Columbia Pictures is owned by Sony. Sony made the DVD player that it's DVD doesn't like...
So, the question is - is it the Sony Player or the Dell Media Experience software? I've emailed Sony asking for a solution, or for my sons' money back on the DVD.

Chris:
I've been through several Sony departments. Upshot - DVD plays fine in Windows Media Player on the 600m. It does NOT play fine with Dell Media Experience which boots up when you stick in the DVD. Since another region 1 DVD plays fine, Sony says it's your software that's the issue.
I see that there is a recent update to PowerDVD (Dell Media Experience's engine, right?), but I also see warnings to not use it.
Please advise. Perhaps someone at Dell has Spider-Man and can verify the problem.
