RE: DELL V725w printer/fax/scannner....
I'm having problems with faxing. The connection tests good on the set up. I have a phone line hooked up directly to the printer/fax. (The line is also used in other parts of house.) I sometimes receive the fax. Then sometimes it doesn't go through. I see it coming through and then it fails. I sometimes send it successfully. Then it fails. For every 3 or 4 faxes sent, maybe 1 goes through. It goes through all the steps - scanning, connecting, and sending. Then it fails. I have it set up with the lowest speed so it connects with other faxes. (As suggested on advanced set up.) Any suggestions?

Hi
I would suggest you to firstly try updating the firmware for your printer. You can access the link mentioned below and choose the corresponding Operating system of your computer:
www.dell.com/.../dell-v725w-inkjet-printer
If you still have issues after updating the firmware, then I would suggest you to reconfigure your fax.
Hope you have checked with your phone company, if there is any issue from their side.
Fax can either be configured from Printer panel or from the fax utility. If you want to configure it prom the printer panel follow these steps:
Press Setup Button and go to Fax Setup, Ringing and Answering.
If you want to configure it using Fax utility, follow these steps:
Open “Dell Printer Home” and click on “Configure the Advanced Fax configuration”. As I understand that the Printer is connected with a single phone line as in the picture below:
Configure the four options as follows:
1. Ring pattern – Any
2. Pickup on rings – Four
3. Auto Answer – Enabled
4. Ring Volume – High
Hope that helps. Please keep me posted with the status.
Thanks & Regards

I'll try that. This is a brand new printer, computer, and the phone jack was just installed by the phone company all within the last 2 weeks.

SandraSas,
What type of Internet Connection are you using?
How did you install the printer?

Firmware update may do the trick. Do let me know if that helps.

I just uploaded firmware and tried to fax. It goes all the way through the process and states faxing complete on the screen of the printer. Then fax failed comes out of the printer. It now states job #34 and I think I got a total of 4 successful faxes out of all those. I have the speed set low in case the other fax machines are older - that was what was suggested in book. When I receive a fax, I see it coming through and then it stops. Do I need to shut off the computer and restart it with the new upload?

SandraSas,
With the high speed connections, the noise may be causing the problems. Since you did not mention the type of phone service you have the fax connected to, try reading...
Faxing with Comcast Cable
It explains on the settings you need to have. Also if you're using DSL, make sure to have a DSL Filter on the phone line from the printer to the wall.

The fax is working on and off - It wasn't working this morning but now in the last hour I received 2 and I was able to fax 2 after changing the default (See below). The phone/answering machine is not on this phone jack. IT's on a separate jack - same phone line. The directions suggest making the answering machine less rings than fax - I just did that but then the machine gets a blank message. Is that the right set up?
I was thinking my recent problems was the right fax driver wasn't the default. I have the default now for the printer/fax as Dell Fax Driver - copy 2 with a picture of the correct printer.
I'm up to 50 fax jobs and maybe 10 worked.

SandraSas,
Having the fax on the same line as the answering machine can make things difficult. I would think it a fax came if, the fax machine would recognize it before the answering machine.
Most phone companies have a plan called dinstinctive ring, then the fax machine recongizes. The fax machine picks up the calls only to that ring pattern. I think it's a few dollars monthy.
Many places are slowly getting away from faxing. My doctors office called and said that I am supposed to contact their office for prescriptions instead of the mail order place. They're getting away from faxing.
