Dell v313w printer does not recognize a full black cartridge. It shows empty. Installed new print-head, but also shows the same with the old print head.

Dell v313w printer does not recognize a full black cartridge. It shows empty. Installed new print-head, but also  shows the same with the old print head. I have tried several new black cartridges, and keep receiving the same message. Also receiving an inaccurate read on the color cartridge. Installed a new print head with the same result. Maybe I should reset the system? Please advise.

Thanks.

bigfrog01,

I would try it with Dell Series ink cartridges. Maybe buy local, then if they don't work, return them. I suspect the sensor in the Generic cartridges can no longer be read.

Hi Rick,

I tried original Dell cartridges and it worked on my Dellv313W Printer. I just purchased a Dell v515W Printer this week, so I can exchange print heads and ink on both. Thanks. Tom

Tom,

Glad you got it working! Thanks for posting back.

When I owned the Dell V715w Printer, I would buy the Dell Series High Capacity ink cartridges and the ink would last a long time.

Take care,

Rick

Hi bigfrog01,

Thanks for posting.

Apologies that your printer is not working as expected.

Where are you purchasing your cartridges?

Sometimes non-OEM or refilled cartridges do not work well with Dell printers.

Hi Robert P.

For awhile I used original Dell Printer Ink, but used generic Ink the past couple of years, and it worked great. The print head was acting up, so I purchased another print head. No matter which print head I use I receive the message, "need to replace black ink". Both the black Ink and color cartridges both show empty, and both have ink in them. I thought about getting original Dell Ink, but I read on Dell forums that it didn't fix the problem. As a result I am reluctant to purchase more Ink. I though about looking for used Dell v313w, 515, and 715 printers as I do have the ink and print heads. Another question is there a way to reset the printer? If sop maybe that will work? I purchased my Dellv313w Ink Jet printer in June 2011. I really haven't used it very much. Please advise if you can.

Thanks,

Tom

Hi Robert,

I have tried removing and installing both cartridges many times, including trying different cartridges with the same results. I also did trouble shooting with no luck. First the black cartridge shows empty, and then the color cartridge shows empty. Apparently the ink sensor(s) are not functioning. Is there a way to do a total reset ? I went through the maintenance tab, and couldn't find a reset tab. Do know how I can do a total reset. What do you think is the problem with the ink sensors? If they are beyond use, I may look to purchase a used Dell v313W, 515 or 715, since I have print heads and ink. Like I mentioned previously, I found out from someone else on the forum that using original Dell Ink didn't fix the problem.

I appreciate your help.

Hi Rick,

Thanks for your reply. I am pretty sure I have tried everything you suggested. The color and black ink are generic, and I have been using them for years with no problem. I purchased a new print head, and it does the same thing the previous print head did. I do not show any ink in the cartridges on the printer, that's why I was looking for a reset. I have unplugged the printer several times, with no results. I also read posts by a Forum poster that had a similar problem. They purchased original Dell Ink, and the same problem persisted. I found a Dell 715 Printer on ebay for $30.00 minus a print-head (free shipping). Since I have print heads and a few generic inks,  I wonder if I should take a gamble on it. Dell color ink cost what the printer would. If there is a way to reset the system on the printer, please let me know.

Thanks,

Tom

Tom,

In addition to what Robert stated...

Did you try Dell Series 21, 22 ink cartridges that are NOT generic?

If you unplug the printer from the wall and remove the power brick for 60 seconds, this will reset any error messages the printer has. I would then plug everything back in.

Power on the printer.

Open the printer(with the power on) and take out the Dell Series 21, 22 black cartridge and then reseat it. I would then take out the color Dell Series 21, 22 ink cartridge and reseat it. Now close the printer and it will print an alignment page.

Any error messages?

black cartridge = black side(left side)          color cartridge = color side(right side)

photo cartridge = black side(left side)          color cartridge = color side(right side)

Dell Series 21, 22 ink cartridges have a sensor in them that cannot be reset. Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges.

Dell Series 21. 22 ink cartridges can be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's Website.

Articles I have are...

Troubleshooting Printhead Problems on the Dell AIO V313w, V515w, V715w, P513w, and P713W Printers

The Printer Does Not Recognize the Ink Cartridge or Only Prints in One Color

And you tried the Replacement Printhead, correct?

Tom,

The only issues with the Dell V Series printer is they only print one page, then to print the rest of the pages, you have to restart the computer. The fix for this was to Turn off Balloon Tips for the printer. Something in Internet Explorer caused this issue and Microsoft claims this was corrected with Windows 10, but it wasn't.

You did remove the power brick for 60 seconds to reset the printer?

Hi Rick,

It has nothing to do with the printer not recognizing the ink cartridges, plus I am using a Mac Computer.

Hi Rick,

Any other suggestions, or should I just purchase a used Dellv313W Printer and use the old one for parts?

Hi Rick,

I had 3 generic black ink printers, and none of them worked. I threw them out. I purchased a black and color Dell Cartridge from Office Max. I will purchase additional Dell Ink probably on Ebay.
