Dell 810 won't print

Hi there

I know that similar threads have been started but the suggestions to fix the problem are not working, so thought I would start my own.  I had to wipe my pc and so then reinstalled my printer using the disc.  According to the pc, the printer is all good to go but when I press print the icon comes up but then nothing happens and it just disappears again.  Have updated the drivers, have completely deleted and reinstalled it, have run the troubleshooter (no problems), have checked the port is at USB, have tried printing from notepad, have checked the the spooler service is started (and stopped and started it again) and when restarting the pc it is still started).  I am totally running out of ideas.  Can anyone help?  Thanks

scrapper78,

Try reinstalling the printer using the instructions below.

First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print job in the queue.

Disconnect the printer.

Download and run the patch(printer cleanup utility) until it prompts you to restart your computer.

Restart your computer. Make sure the printer is removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal

Download the Vista 32-bit drivers for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 32-bit or the Vista 64-bit drivers for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 64-bit. Install the Vista drivers in the Vista Compatibility mode You'll get a message, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on).

Links to the patch/drivers can be found at...

scrapper78,

First run Delete Print Jobs to remove stuck print job(s) from the queue, then restart your computer.

Open the file you want to print, click o file, print and make sure the proper printer is selected.

Hi there

Thanks for your reply.  I checked but there no jobs to delete.  Also have checked that the correct printer is selected.  I disabled my security for 10 minutes and tried to print but was just the same as before.  If I try to print from notepad I get an error saying it cannot find the file specified.  I also ran the Microsoft Fix it tool and it says there are no problems.

scrapper78,

What virus program and firewall are you using?

At the moment it is just avast.  I also had malwarebytes but couldn't temporarily disable it so deleted it but still no joy.

scrapper78,

If you have the VPN of Avast installed, go to control panel, programs and features, click on Avast, change, then uninstall the VPN part and then when you restart your computer, then see if the printer works.

Thank you so much.  That worked a treat.  I was pretty much ready for throwing the printer out the window.  Thanks again, particularly with your patience and persistence
