PowerVault 3220i controller replaced but continue with Cache Backup Device Failed
Hi,
The recovery guru recommends replacing the RAID Controller Module because one of the controllers failed. I bought one from a company and installed it in the PowerVault 3220i but the Recovery Guru has the error Cache Backup Device Failed. I verified on the EMS The only difference is on Cache Backup Device is:
Module 0
Cache Backup Device | |||
Status: |
|
||
Type: | SD flash physical disk
Location: | RAID Controller Module 0, Connector SD 1
Capacity: | 7,639 MB | ||

Module 1

Does the Capacity need to be the same? or bring me the steps to solve this problem, please.
Thanks

Hi @Joey C,
Here is my solution:
After reading a lot of options and recommendations that don't work for me I decide to reset both RAID Controllers, first the one that was replaced, RAID Controller Module in Enclosure 0, Slot 1, and after verifying that everything works Ok did the same process on RAID Controller Module in Enclosure 0, Slot 0.
Here are the steps followed:
The yellow RAID Controller Module in Enclosure 0, Slot 1 (The one replaced)
Another option is:
Then I did the same procedure for the other RAID Controller (Enclosure 0, Slot 0)
The green RAID Controller Module in Enclosure 0, Slot 0
Another option is:
After this process went to Recovery Guru press Recheck and clears the message showing no failures
I hope this process helps other people.

Hi @Arn Torr,
From your output log, both are showing optimal status, have you tried rescanning in Recovery Guru? Which controller module was replaced? Do you have the newly replaced module DPN#? From the error "Cache Backup Device Failed" is pointing the issue to the cache module in the controller module. There is a build in module inside the controller, which can be removed and reseat, but I do not have the guide reference for you to refer. That might be able to help resolve the issue.

Hi Joey,
I don't fine a specific DPN but here is the complete information for the New RAID Controller Module.
RAID Controller Module in Enclosure 0, Slot 1
Base RAID Controller Module Properties
You can verify and let me know.
Thanks,

Hi @Arn Torr,
The article might have been removed. I can't access it either.
The DPN# is located physically on the controller, a small white sticker.
About the error you saw, did you try rescan in Recovery Guru?
Have you tried the steps provided in Recovery Guru to resolve the issue?
