SDS Exit Maintenance mode - what are the processes

I would like to know what takes place between entering the command to exit maintenance mode for and SDS and the time that the actual maintenance mode exit is complete.  It can be seen that it took about 5 minutes between the command and the completion.    I.e. Is the data protected after the exit of the maintenance mode is ended and another server can be put into maintenance mode?  Or there is some more data to be rebalanced/rebuilt before another server can be put into maintenance mode?

E.g.

1405856 2020-11-27 14:30:38.183 MDM_CLI_CONF_COMMAND_RECEIVED INFO       Command exit_maintenance_mode received, User: 'admin'. [283742914]

1405884 2020-11-27 14:35:17.154 SDS_MAINTENANCE_MODE_ENDED INFO          SDS SDS2 (ID aae1b53000000001) has exited maintenance mode.

Remember the pre-requistes for placing an SDS into Maintenance mode
1.No degraded capacity
2.No other SDS in Maintenance mode
3.You have enough free capacity for 3rd copy of allocation (may need to be the same size as the SDS that is going into Maintenance mode)

When you exit IMM, you will see a rebuild.
Once the rebuild is finished only then can you place another SDS into maintenance mode.
In your case, it took 5 mins for the rebuild to complete.

Hi,

Thanks for the information.

In the article 42926 "Pre-checks to place SDS into Instant maintenance mode" it has the below statement.

"While an SDS is in maintenance mode, most VxFlex OS operations (like adding a volume) cannot be performed in the Fault Set, Protection Domain, or Storage Pool in which the SDS and its devices reside."

Is this enforced? or is it recommended to block provisioning of new volumes?  In my experience I did not notice that volume creation is blocked while an SDS is in maintenance mode.  The current level installed is 3.0.100.
