Update Firmware Perc H710 - Fail Update

Hello all,

First of all, thanks for the help!.

We have a poweredge t420 with a perc h710 and receive a error related to the battery of the perc ("Cache data discarded due to Memory/Battery issue").
I replace it but I still get the error, which makes me think the error may come from an outdated firmware.

Now the question is.. Can we update the firmware from any version?

We have the firmware version :  21.2.0-0007 , and controller version 06.801.52.00

The last on dell : 21.3.4-0001

Best regards!

Hello,

Taking the PERC to firmware version 21.3.4-0001 from 21.2.0-0007 should be fine. The latest driver version for Windows Server 2012 R2 is 6.805.03.00, and for Server 2016 it is 7.703.06.00. I would update both of these items. If you run both files, but defer the first restart, you can update both in a single outage. If the error persists after, you may also consider performing a power drain by unplugging the server, then holding the power button down for 30 seconds, and then bringing the server back online.

Hello Dylan, thank you for the response!.

The OS is VMware ESXi , in this case I understand that I should enter through the LifeCycle controller and look for the firmware updates or can I update from the OS of some vm on that host?.

Thank you,

NDR

You won't be able to run the firmware updates through a VM. You can do so through either the iDRAC, or the Lifecycle controller, as you mentioned.

Ok, now the battery of the PERC appears to be ok with a power drain.

But when i try to update the firmware via FTP i get an error -->

I tried via USB or shared folder without positive results, it seems to me that a package is missing on ftp.

Thanks!,

best regards.

That error pops when a catalog is unable to be found. If the iDRAC is out of date, that could be the cause. You can either verify the iDRAC firmware revision and try again, download the .EXE to run in the iDRAC web GUI, or use the bootable firmware .iso image available below.

System > Main System Chassis > Firmware should list it.
