R760 Possible RAID Configs / Sanity-Check

Hello everyone,

we're now speccing a few R760 and we would like to make a sanity check regarding our planned config, just to be sure our VAR isn't feeding us false information.

We're planning to get the chassis 24 x 2.5" + 2 x 2.5" (SAS4/SATA) with Dual Controller (2x H965i)

We'll fill the chassis with 24x 1.6TB SAS SSDs on the front, and the idea with the dual controller is to divide the PERC load between both CPUs (ex: the first PERC would control 16 drives the the second one the remaining 8).

We would then like to fill the 2 rear slots with two 960GB SATA SSDs to be used by the OS (Windows, which will serve only as an hypervisor).

Question to the PowerEgde experts: is there any way we could set these 2 rear drives with with RAID1 through a hardware RAID controller? According to our VAR this is not possible, as the two H965i can't deal with mixed drive types, and a third PERC can't be added to this constellation. The VAR partner says that we either set this RAID1 volume through Software RAID or we should get two BOSS cards instead for the OS (and give up the 2 rear SATA SSDs). Is this information correct? Or is there another way to manage the whole storage (24 + 2 Drives) with PERCs / Hardware RAID?

We would prefer to NOT use BOSS cards and deal only with SAS/SATA SSDs, if possible.

Thanks in advance and best regards
