Need some info on the R410 H657J riser card

I have a old R410 that I converted to a desktop a while back. Still runs great for my needs but since I moved I am stuck using WiFi. Since the system only has USB2.0 and I already have a GPU in the PCI-E 16 slot and the BIOS/UEFI doesn't have a Bifurcation option for the PCI-E I was hoping someone has some info on the little white PCI-E looking slot for a RAID controller would normally plug into.

Is it a typical PCI-E 4x or 8x slot just pushed up forward with the typical pinout or is it something wacky? If it's something wacky is there a pinout for it?

Well I tried it. Disconnected everything RAID related to the spare R410, slapped on OpenSUSE Tumbleweed on a spare drive. Tossed in a RS232 card with a asix chipset into the X16 slot and it shows up fine running lspci. Shut down the system and put it into Slot2 and powered on the system. System ran with the fans on full tilt and didn't post. The little LCD said drives were disconnected. Shut it off and pulled the card and the system started fine. Once again I plugged it in and this time the system came on fine and booted back into Linux and was not listed when I ran lspci.

Darn, would of been nice.

Hi,

Unfortunately, I don't have any documented information for your reference on the slot architecture. I've also checked the slot priority on the white slot you mentioned, it is slot 2 which is labeled STORAGE_PCIE. It doesn't have any other cards listed for that slot except storage.

@DELL-Joey C

After comparing power and ground pins to a pinout and a old PCI-E x16 GPU with the RAID card not to mention it does say on the RAID card clearly says X8 EXPRESS on the PCB solder mask I am convinced it's a typical PCI-E bus.

I have a second R410 laying around that I might just toss in a PCI-E card into the SLOT-2 and load up a live distro of Linux from USB and see if it detects the card. If it works I'll share my results.
