Dell T430 Server onboard SATA connections J_SATA_A and J_SATA_B

Hey All

I have a 8 x 3.5" bay version of the Dell T430 server. I have 8 x 10tb SAS drives in it. I will be replacing

Tthe motherboard has 2 Sata ports that look like theyre for use with the 4 bay version of the server. I was thinking of using these to connect a SSD (maybe a mirror) and use as a boot drive.

When I've looked at these connectors they aren't the usual SATA connections, they're referred to as J_SATA_A and J_SATA_B in the user manual found here https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-uk/poweredge-t430/t430_om/system-board-connectors?guid=guid-5d2352d3-e7b3-4775-8abd-f82ca9c1c318&lang=en-us

My question is, Can I use one of these ports to boot a SSD and if the answers yes, what cable do I need?

Hello Steven,

Those connectors are for the embedded software controller S130.

These are the cables for those ports. One is for Cabled hard drives and the other is if there is a hard drive hot swap backplane.

Cabled hard drives: #VVM8J - ASSY,CBL,PWR,MB,SATA,X4,T430

Backplane hard drives: #0H40R - ASSY,CBL,SATA,MB,X8BP,T430
